Self Esteem has been announced as curator for this year’s London Literature Festival at the Southbank Centre, set to take place from 21st October to 2nd November.
Rebecca Lucy Taylor, who performs as Self Esteem, will curate a day of exclusive events on 1st November, including the launch of her debut book ‘A Complicated Woman’. The day will feature Taylor in conversation with Dolly Alderton, followed by an evening of music and spoken word performances featuring Tom Rasmussen, Marged, Travis Alabanza, and Pam Ayres.
“I’m honoured to be curating at this year’s London Literature Festival. I’ve never really believed there to be rigid lines between songwriting, art, poetry and prose. I’ve always longed to be free from genre and labels, not just in my own work, but also in the art I’m drawn to. I want it all because I am greedy, and I’m no longer going to apologise for that,” Taylor says.
The festival’s broader programme includes appearances from international authors such as Sayaka Murata, Chris Kraus, Alexis Wright, Bora Chung, and Olga Ravn. Additional featured writers include Sebastian Faulks, Zadie Smith, Adam Buxton, Malala Yousafzai, and Reese Witherspoon with Harlan Coben.
Mark Ball, Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre, says: “The Southbank Centre is a place where culture makers come to congregate, collaborate and create their best work, and we’re delighted that Rebecca Lucy Taylor, a.k.a Self Esteem will bring her extraordinary vision to the curation of events at this year’s London Literature Festival.”
The festival will also feature a dedicated poetry day on 25th October, including performances from Poet Laureate Simon Armitage, Michael Rosen, and Jackie Kay. Events for families and children will run throughout the festival, including sessions with children’s laureate Frank Cottrell-Boyce.
Tickets go on sale to Southbank Centre Members on 9th July, followed by general public release on 10th July.
