Wednesday have announced their new album ‘Bleeds’, and shared single ‘Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)’

Wednesday have announced their new album ‘Bleeds’, set for release on 19th September via Dead Oceans. The North Carolina band have also shared new single ‘Wound Up Here (By Holdin On)’, accompanied by a video directed by Joriel Cura.

The new album follows their previous record ‘Rat Saw God’, with the band once again working with producer Alex Farrar at Drop of Sun in Asheville. The twelve-track album features previously released single ‘Elderberry Wine’.

Speaking about the new single, frontwoman Karly Hartzman says, “This song is inspired by a story my friend told me, from when he had to pull a body out of a creek in West Virginia. Someone had drowned but they took a few days to resurface because of the current.” She continues, “‘I wound up here by holdin on’ is a line from my friend Evan Gray’s poetry book: Thickets Swamped in a Fence-Coated Briars. He gave me and Jake a copy of it to read on tour once and that line stuck out to me as pure genius so I stole it and wrote the rest of the song in my own words around it.”

Discussing the album, Hartzman notes, “Bleeds is the spiritual successor to Rat Saw God, and I think the quintessential ‘Wednesday Creek Rock’ album. This is what Wednesday songs are supposed to sound like. We’ve devoted a lot of our lives to figuring this out—and I feel like we did.”

The band, comprising Hartzman, Xandy Chelmis on lap and pedal steel, Alan Miller on drums, Ethan Baechtold on bass and piano, and Jake “MJ” Lenderman on guitar, are embarking on a North American tour.
