YUNGBLUD has released their latest single ‘Zombie’, accompanied by a music video starring Academy Award-nominated actress Florence Pugh.
The track serves as the third single from YUNGBLUD’s upcoming album ‘Idols’, which arrives via Locomotion/Island Records. The record marks the first part of a double album project from the artist.
Speaking about the new single, YUNGBLUD said: “The song was written initially about my grandmother going through serious injury and trauma, leading her to become a different person to who she was before. It’s about the feeling of deterioration and ugliness; shutting out the world and the people we love out of the fear of becoming a burden or an embarrassment.” They added: “We all want someone or something to comfort us no matter how we are right now or who we become in the future. But it’s f*cking scary.”
The accompanying music video, directed by Charlie Sarsfield and produced by Untold Studios, features Pugh portraying a healthcare worker dealing with emotional exhaustion and grief.
‘Idols’ will feature eleven tracks including previously released singles and new songs such as ‘Hello Heaven, Hello’, ‘Lovesick Lullaby’, and ‘The Greatest Parade’.
YUNGBLUD previewed ‘Zombie’ during a surprise performance at London’s Scala in March. The artist is set to host their curated festival, Bludfest, at The National Bowl in Milton Keynes on 21st June.
