grandson has announced his third album ‘Inertia’ with new single ‘Brainrot’

grandson is set to release his third album ‘INERTIA’ on 5th September via XX Records, alongside sharing new single ‘BRAINROT’.

The Los Angeles-based artist’s new track, produced by Mike Crossey (The Killers, The 1975, Twenty One Pilots), marks their first solo release in over two years, following their contribution to the Venom film soundtrack. The song represents the first grandson track recorded exclusively with live instruments.

“BRAINROT is about the distraction of the internet, the way our attention span is weaponized and attacked by technology companies to prevent any real momentum building on the pressing issues of our generation,” grandson explains. “The music was written with two of my best friends in their flat in East Hollywood, and produced and mixed by the legendary Mike Crossey, who has done some of my favorite records. He pushed me to a level of artistic focus and quality control I’ve never been pushed to before.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Joe Weil, who has previously worked with Kendrick Lamar, YG, A$AP Ferg, and 21 Savage, explores the track’s themes through social commentary.

‘INERTIA’ focuses on what grandson describes as a “growing need for class solidarity that can be achieved by seeing that across any political spectrum, people stand to benefit from the consolidation of power in the hands of the many against the few.” The album features heavyweight riffs, rap elements, and hooks, continuing the artist’s established approach to social commentary through music.

grandson will headline Glastonbury Festival’s Left Field tent this summer.
