London eight-piece caroline are set to release their second album ‘caroline 2’ on 30th May via Rough Trade Records. Ahead of the release, the group have shared new single ‘Coldplay cover’ alongside an accompanying video.
The album, recorded primarily at Big Jelly Studios in Ramsgate, was produced by band members Jasper Llewellyn, Casper Hughes and Mike O’Malley, with engineering from Syd Kemp, mixing by Jason Agel and mastering by Heba Kadry. The record follows their self-titled debut, which was released in 2022.
“This song is about the many seemingly incongruent, dissonant things that make up our experience; how we hold these multiple, contrasting things in our awareness and somehow make them into a reality that is coherent, that works together,” Llewellyn says of ‘Coldplay cover’. “In this case, there are two different songs, played at the same time, one in the kitchen, one in the living room of the same house in south east london. The microphone moves between the two rooms.”
The band spent 18 months working on the album across various writing sessions in the UK, with additional work taking place in rural Scotland and southern France. “The first record was a compilation, but this one is a declaration,” Llewellyn explains, with O’Malley adding, “It’s more intentional.”
