A day in the life of… Polly Money

You know what’s easier than following around your fave pop stars, day in, day out, to see what they’re up to right that minute? Asking them. This month, we nab Dork Hype List tour fave, Polly Money.

7:30am   My alarm goes off, followed by a couple of snoozes…

8:00am I’m up and out for a walk with a coffee from one of my favourite spots. I’m in a nostalgic mood at the moment, so this morning’s walk is soundtracked by Craig David’s ‘Born to Do It’.

9:30am Food. I’m obsessed with this breakfast bowl I’m making at the moment: chopped toast on the bottom, beans, avocado, boiled eggs, spring onions, salt, pep and loads of hot sauce. Yum.

11:00am Today’s a show day so there’s prep to do. The first thing I sort out is my hair because these curls take some taming. Afterwards, it’s a vocal warm-up – I get this done early so that if things get busy later I know I’m feeling ready to go. During this time I’ll usually have some music on, which today was Dora Jar’s latest album (I can’t listen to it enough).

2:00pm Somehow, as is always the case on a show day, the morning has vanished, and so Connor (my drummer, and annoyingly punctual best mate) has arrived as I’m scrambling to get the final things together (reliably disorganised as I am). We’re playing in London tonight, so the gears loaded into the van and we’re off.

2:30pm A small selection of tunes from the drive, for your listening pleasure: Charli xcx – ‘Everything Is Romantic (Feat. Caroline Polachek)’, Christina Aguilera – ‘Genie in a Bottle’, Tate McRae – ‘Sports Car’. All certified bangers.

5:00pm Soundcheck at the venue – everything went pretty smoothly, venue is cracking and our sound tech was ace, so everyone is feeling nice and comfy.

7:00pm Doors are now open. I get to say a quick hello to all the friends and family who have come out to the show, then I head back to the green room to chill out and warm up before the gig.

8:30pm   I’m mid-way through the set here at Colours in Hoxton, and I’m loving it. The crowd are incredible and I think this might be our best show yet. Result.

9:00pm Feeling super buzzed after coming off stage. Now it’s time for a beer and to properly hang out with everyone who’s come. My band and I did a cute photo booth before packing up the gear.

11:00pm Found a bar for a nightcap before heading home. May have picked up a falafel wrap on the way back as well. Yum x 2.

Taken from the April 2025 issue of Dork. Polly Money’s EP ‘T-Shirt Nothing Else’ is out 20th March.
