Laufey has launched a foundation to support youth orchestra programs worldwide

Laufey has launched The Laufey Foundation, a new initiative aimed at supporting young musicians through youth orchestra programs.

The GRAMMY-winning Icelandic-Chinese artist’s foundation will provide resources and opportunities to ensure young musicians from all demographics can participate in youth orchestra programs, which serve as essential stepping stones for serious music students.

“The support and scholarships I received as a child have directly led to the career I have now. It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to provide the next generation with the same support and opportunities. I can’t wait to connect with the young musician community!” Laufey says.

The foundation’s inaugural grants will be awarded to the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, LA Phil’s YOLA program, The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, and Carnegie Hall’s NYO2 and NYO Jazz programs. There are plans to expand to additional orchestras globally in the future.

AWAL, AEG Presents, and Steinway & Sons have joined as Founding Partners, while Warner Chappell, Catbird, and Gibson Gives are participating as Benefactor Partners. A portion of proceeds from sales of Mei Mei The Bunny will also support the foundation.

The initiative follows Laufey’s establishment of The Laufey Scholarship for Graduate Students at Syracuse University’s Bandier Music Business Master’s Program in 2024, which provides £100,000 for International students over ten years. She has also made donations to various Los Angeles organisations supporting communities affected by recent wildfires, including World Central Kitchen, Pasadena Humane Society, Altadena Girls and L.A. Regional Food Bank.
