Mariah Carey is set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ with an expanded deluxe release via Def Jam Records/UMe.
The anniversary collection, arriving 30th May, includes a limited edition 5LP vinyl box set personally curated by Carey. The set features the original album alongside tracks from the Ultra Platinum Edition, including ‘Don’t Forget About Us’, ‘Makin’ It Last All Night (What It Do)’, ‘Secret Love’, and ‘Sprung’. The collection also includes dance remixes, collaborations, instrumentals, acapellas, and new remixes by KAYTRANADA and Esentrik.
“I’m really happy to celebrate ‘Mimi’s Emancipation’ with this special anniversary re-release,” Carey says. “While working on this edition, I got to relive all the memories from this pivotal moment in my personal and professional life. This album has some of my biggest hits to date, as well as some personal favorites that are very special to me. Forgotten gems, unreleased bonus tracks and different remixes with incredible collaborators – all of these and more are now available in one place for the first time ever!”
The comprehensive box set includes 45 tracks, featuring the previously unreleased ‘When I Feel It’, originally intended for the album but held back due to sample clearance issues. The collection also includes Carey’s 2021 ‘We Belong Together (Mimi’s Late Night Valentine’s Mix)’ and her 2024 American Music Awards performance of ‘Don’t Forget About Us’/’We Belong Together’.
Originally released in 2005, ‘The Emancipation of Mimi’ featured collaborations with Jermaine Dupri, Snoop Dogg, Kanye West, Twista, Nelly, Pharrell Williams and The Neptunes, and James “Big Jim” Wright. The album has sold more than 15 million copies worldwide, making it both the best-selling album of Carey’s career and one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century.
The anniversary edition will be available as both a 5LP box set and a 2LP deluxe edition, with a digital deluxe version also planned for release.
