Chloe Moriondo – oyster

Label: Atlantic
Released: 28th March 2025

After the bonkers hyperpop-inflected excess of Chloe Moriondo’s second album ‘Sucker Punch’ comes the reflective and lucid songwriting brilliance of ‘Oyster’.

‘Oyster’ captures all the sonic impulses and flights of fancy that make Chloe such a great pop figure; this time, though, it’s more refined and focused. Less of the kitchen sink and more of the perfectly arranged group of utensils that all serve a specific purpose. The result is Chloe’s best collection of songs yet.

The record encapsulates some thoughtful and resonant lyrics as Chloe navigates a turbulent period in her life. There’s sadness, of course, but also plenty of playfulness as on the bouncy electro poppy ‘Abyss’, the balance between emotions is perfectly struck. ‘Parasite’ represents fevered abandon with its pulsing pop rush while ‘Pond’ is desperately yearning and beautiful as Chloe sings ‘I think I lost myself’.

In a strictly musical sense, though, Chloe has absolutely found the very best version of herself. Through turmoil and upheaval comes a gentle epiphany.
