NewJeans have announced they are pausing all activities following a recent court ruling, making the announcement during their ComplexCon performance in Hong Kong.
The K-pop group, who recently rebranded as NJZ, performed at the festival on 23rd March, marking their first show since their independent rebrand in February. During their set, the group debuted an unreleased track titled ‘Pitstop’, which had been teased on their social media in recent weeks.
The announcement follows ADOR being granted an injunction to prohibit NewJeans from pursuing independent activities. The ruling restricts the group from operating without explicit permission from their former label.
“We have decided to stop all activities for the time being in accordance with the court ruling. It wasn’t an easy decision but a necessary one,” the group told the crowd at ComplexCon.
Minji elaborated: “We knew this wouldn’t be easy from the start. We will continue to voice our opinions while respecting the court’s decision and the process. We have no regrets.”
“Some people may think staying [with ADOR] would have been better for us, but this was about protecting ourselves,” Hyein added. “We believe we will come back stronger and do not regret our decision.”
Minji also addressed fans directly, stating: “Please don’t see this as the end – we will return, and when we do, we want to meet you again with bright, smiling faces. We know this may be disappointing and upsetting for Bunnies, but this is how we protect ourselves, and only by doing this can we return stronger.”
The legal proceedings between ADOR and NewJeans remain ongoing, with the company’s lawsuit against the group regarding the validity of their contracts continuing.
