Stormzy is set to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Cambridge, marking his second such accolade to date.
The grime artist will be awarded a Doctorate in Law at a special ceremony in the Senate-House on 25th June, recognising his philanthropic work across education, music, sport and literature. The ceremony will be presided over by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Prentice, with staff, students, alumni and invited guests in attendance.
The recognition follows Stormzy’s establishment of the Stormzy Scholarship at Cambridge in 2018, which funds two Black British students annually by covering their tuition fees and maintenance costs. The programme expanded in 2021 through HSBC UK’s support, enabling an additional ten students per year to benefit from the scheme. The initiative has supported 55 students to date, with the largest cohort set to graduate in 2025.
This marks Stormzy’s second honorary doctorate, following his first from Exeter University in 2022. He joins seven other distinguished individuals receiving honorary doctorates from Cambridge this year, including Sir Simon Russell Beale, Professor Angela Davis, Lady Arden of Heswall, Dame Katherine Grainger, Sir Oliver Hart, Maria Leptin and Sir John Rutter.
