Cautious Clay chronicles the hours of the day with his new ‘The Hours: Morning’ album

Cautious Clay has announced his new album ‘The Hours: Morning’, set for release via Concord Records on 16th May.

Alongside the announcement, he has shared new single ‘Tokyo Lift (5am)’, following last month’s ‘No Champagne (6am)’. The eight-track album presents songs associated with specific morning hours, from 5am through to noon.

“‘Tokyo Lift (5am)’ is a song I wrote about a time I spent out at a karaoke bar until 5 AM,” Clay explains. “Karaoke for me is super hit or miss because it is completely dependent upon everyone leaning into their performances and people picking good songs. This particular night was perfect; the music was perfect, the drinks were flowing, and everyone was completely losing track of time.”

Speaking about the concept behind the album, Clay shares: “Every hour of the day has a distinct feeling to me. With this eight-song project, I wanted to reflect on what the morning feels like to me, so I made what felt like 8 discrete hours of the day. Some of the hours feel calm, and some of the hours have more energy, but I wanted them to play off of each other based on different experiences I’ve had during those times of day.”

The album follows Clay’s 2023 release ‘KARPEH’ and was written after his move to Philadelphia. During the writing process, he created over 60 songs across a year, with the final eight tracks selected based on their connection to specific morning hours.

The album’s tracklist includes ‘Tokyo Lift (5am)’, ‘No Champagne (6am)’, ‘Traffic (7am)’, ‘The Plot (8am)’, ‘Promises (9am)’, ‘Father Time (10am)’, ‘Amber (11am)’, and ‘Smoke Break (12pm)’.
