Hardcore band Zulu goes on hiatus following abuse allegations against frontman

Los Angeles hardcore band Zulu have announced they are putting their project “on pause” following allegations of abuse made against frontman and founder Anaiah Rasheed Muhammad.

The announcement comes after musician Simpson shared allegations online regarding Muhammad, describing their relationship as “a violent one” and detailing claims of physical, emotional, and psychological abuse.

Muhammad has denied the allegations, stating they are “false and deeply troubling.” He added that he has “never engaged in any form of physical abuse” and has “never engaged in any form of coercion, manipulation, or isolation toward” Simpson.

The remaining members of Zulu have released a statement addressing the situation: “We stand in solidarity with all people who are victims of abuse, and condemn the mistreatment of those vulnerable in our communities. Our hearts go out to anyone who has experienced any form of physical or emotional abuse, assault, or any other act that has caused harm and taken their agency away from them.”

The band members have confirmed they have “separated” themselves from Muhammad and “will no longer be working with or performing with him in any capacity.” They stated they were unaware of any allegations until they were made public, though Simpson has subsequently disputed this claim, describing the band’s statement as “a lie.”
