Tei Shi has unveiled her first single of the year, ‘Best Be Leaving’, alongside announcing two headline shows this spring.
The Canadian-Colombian artist’s new track was written during a creative retreat in Vancouver Island, Canada, produced alongside Noah Beresin and Tommy English. The single arrives following her self-titled album ‘Valerie’ and a series of jazz club performances in New York and Los Angeles.
“‘Best Be Leaving’ is a song about letting go of someone you love. It’s about the lonely fact that sometimes relationships hit a place where the best thing you can do is walk away,” Tei Shi explains. “Throughout life we’re all saying goodbye to or walking away from someone at any given moment…it’s part of navigating our lives and the world, and for me that was real in a few different, important relationships in my life when I wrote the song. ‘Best Be Leaving’ is kind of my bittersweet soundtrack to that realization.”
The release follows Tei Shi’s recent theatrical debut in ‘I Can’t Make Sense’, a play written by Vogue Giambri, performed across five shows in New York City. The production was inspired by Giambri’s experience of losing her mother in 2023 while on tour with Tei Shi supporting Kimbra.
