BLACKPINK’s Lisa has discussed self-doubt and growth while making solo album ‘Alter Ego’

BLACKPINK’s Lisa has discussed the initial uncertainty she faced whilst creating her debut solo album ‘Alter Ego’, revealing her naturally reserved personality.

The K-pop idol spoke to The Wall Street Journal Magazine about her decision to pursue an independent solo career. “I’m a shy girl inside,” Lisa explained. “In BLACKPINK, we each have a position. But if I don’t do it now, when am I going to do it?”

Lisa noted that her former BLACKPINK bandmates have provided crucial support during this transition. “We’d always talk about it like, ‘How do you feel?’ ‘I feel the same.’ We’ve spent three, four years [training] here – you’re just going to go out and do something else? I don’t think you want that,” she shared. The group maintains regular contact, with Lisa adding: “I’m just so lucky to have them. After I do the VMAs or a big show, they always text me.”

The singer discovered new aspects of her musicality during the creation of ‘Alter Ego’. “I didn’t know I was able to do this kind of stuff as well as the hip-hop. I want them to be surprised,” she said.

‘Alter Ego’ features collaborations with several artists, including Doja Cat, RAYE, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla and Future, with singles including ‘Rockstar’, ‘Born Again’, and ‘Moonlit Floor’.
