Housewife – Girl Of The Hour EP

Label: Submarine Cat Records
Released: 7th March 2025

Housewife’s ‘Girl Of The Hour’ EP captures those peculiar growing pains of early adulthood with refreshing candour, making for a coming-of-age soundtrack that seamlessly blends indie-pop warmth with grunge-tinged edges. Opening track ‘I Lied’ sets the tone with its rich, analog-feeling production that wraps around you like a well-worn cardigan. The tactile quality of the recording gives everything an intimacy that feels both nostalgic and immediate.

‘Work Song’ bounces in with handclaps and self-aware destruction, channelling the spirit of beabadoobee while carving its own path through quarter-life chaos. ‘Life Of The Party’ dives deep into modern social anxiety, asking questions about forced fun that hit a bit too close to home for comfort. ‘Matilda’ pulls off an impressive sleight of hand, taking the emotional framework of pop-punk and rebuilding it into something more nuanced. ‘Divorce’ might sound like it’s heading for melodrama, but instead transforms its heavy subject matter into something unexpectedly uplifting. The EP closes with ‘Wasn’t You’, a slow-burning standout that builds from whispered confessions to cathedral-sized catharsis.

It’s a collection that captures the particular messiness of growing up without falling into cliché – every track feeling like a diary entry you’d rather forget, transformed into something you want to play on repeat.
