Charli XCX has been thinking about doing a Lou Reed-inspired album project with Clairo

Charli XCX has suggested the possibility of a collaborative album with Clairo, following their recent performance together at Laneway Festival 2025.

The pair performed Clairo’s track ‘Sofia’ at the Melbourne edition of the festival on 14th February, after which Charli shared her thoughts on potential future collaborations. “I really had fun doing it and it got me thinking, what if we made a record with guitars or strings or both. Lou Reed era maybe, I dunno just saying,” she said.

The two artists have previously worked together, with Clairo featuring on Charli’s 2019 track ‘February 2017’ alongside Yaeji. ‘Sofia’ appears on Clairo’s 2019 debut album ‘Immunity’.

The suggestion of a guitar-based project aligns with recent comments from Charli’s producer Finn Keane about her future musical direction. “Chatting to Charli now, there is a desire in her to do the complete opposite thing again, which is very in keeping with her ethos. Some of the conversations we’re having and music we’ve been playing around with the last couple of months have been completely the opposite,” Keane said.

Charli recently secured three Grammy awards for Best Dance Pop Recording (‘Von Dutch’), Best Dance/Electronic Album (‘Brat’), and Best Recording Package (‘Brat’). She has also received five nominations for the upcoming BRIT Awards 2025, including Artist Of The Year and Album Of The Year for ‘Brat’.
