Nirvana’s surviving members perform with Post Malone at SNL 50th anniversary concert

Nirvana have reunited for a performance at Saturday Night Live’s SNL 50: The Homecoming concert, featuring Post Malone on vocals.

The iconic group’s surviving members Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear performed ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ at the event on 14th February. The performance follows their recent appearance at the FireAid benefit concert in January, where they were joined by St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett and Violet Grohl.

While Grohl had been previously announced as a performer for the SNL 50 celebrations, it was not specified whether he would appear with Nirvana, Foo Fighters, or as a solo artist. Post Malone, who previously performed a 15-song set of Nirvana covers during 2020 alongside Blink-182’s Travis Barker, took on vocal duties for the performance. At the time of Malone’s 2020 tribute, Grohl expressed his approval, describing the performance as “super cool”.

The SNL 50 Anniversary Special continues on 16th February, with Paul McCartney, Sabrina Carpenter, and Paul Simon set to appear. The programme launched its 50th season in September, with celebrations including a feature film titled ‘Saturday Night’ and a Questlove-directed documentary focusing on the show’s musical heritage.
