GIRLBAND! have shared a new video for their latest single ‘Not Like The Rest’, filmed in their hometown of Nottingham.
The three-piece band’s new visual was shot in locations around the streets where they grew up, connecting directly to the track’s themes of small-town life and finding one’s identity.
“This video embodies everything the song is about and everything that I felt at the time of writing this song,” singer Georgie says. “So knowing there’s a visual representation of that aligning with the song and meaning is amazing. The video delivers all the things we could have wanted and makes that feeling not so scary like it was when I was afraid to be me but to be important and humbly celebrated in the exact way it should be. We just want this to make things a little less scary for other young people.”
The band released their debut EP ‘Heartbreak Town’ last year via Soul Kitchen / EMI North. Speaking about the release, Georgie explains: “This EP really tells the story of Girlband so far from practicing in my front room and house parties to playing 100s of gigs together all over the country and further afield. All the influences that we talk about and play in the van together come through and end up creating I guess this record. The lyrics are messages from that heart and what I really believe in, stand for and want people to hear so they too can relate and feel that. From personal stories of coming out, freedom and empowerment to what it’s like to be from a working class town. It’s music for all the people and that’s what I think sets us apart from all the other girl bands out there.”
