Rizzle Kicks are “bringing the sunshine” with their comeback album ‘Competition is for Losers’

Rizzle Kicks are set to mark a new chapter with the release of their third album, ‘Competition is for Losers’, set to arrive this Friday (14 February 2025). The returning duo – Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule – reunited in May 2024 and have since been steadily rebuilding their presence, since their comeback single ‘Javelin’ arrived back in August 2024.

At Camden’s Koko towards the end of 2024, the pair staged a sold‐out performance that saw 1,500 tickets snapped up in just 15 seconds. As Harley explained in the March issue of Dork, out now, “if I’m honest, I said to our manager a few days before that I’ll be really happy if we sell 300 tickets on the first day – then it sold out in 15 seconds.”

Discussing the single ‘Javelin’, Harley stated that “we really wanted to capture what people think of us – bringing the sunshine, making people happy, dancing, bringing good energy,” while also noting that the forthcoming album reflects a broader musical balance. He added that “we wouldn’t have decided to pursue coming back if we didn’t think the music was really good. When we got back in the studio, there was just a vibe – it felt like a good progression from what we used to put out.”

The duo spent nearly four years in the studio working with both long-standing collaborators and new producers to refine their sound. Jordan Stephens also commented on the evolution in their creative approach, saying, “I was more of a difficult person back then… this time, I was more chilled, I’m more collaborative and I’m less precious.”

With ‘Competition is for Losers’ due for release via BMG on 14 February 2025. You can read the full interview in the March 2025 issue of Dork, out now, and our review of the album here.
