Green Day are developing a comedy film about teens chasing concert dreams

Green Day are set to develop a new coming-of-age comedy film ‘New Years Rev’, inspired by their early touring experiences.

The film follows three best friends, played by Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust, who mistakenly believe they are scheduled to open for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve concert in Los Angeles. The story chronicles their journey as they travel to California in a van.

‘The Office’ stars Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey have joined the cast in supporting roles. Lee Kirk is attached to write and direct the project, with Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool serving as producers alongside Live Nation.

“Van days rule,” Armstrong says. “You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”

The film marks Live Nation Productions’ latest music-focused project, following their recent announcement of ‘Rolling Loud’, starring Owen Wilson. The production company previously worked on the 2018 ‘A Star Is Born’.
