Squid have unveiled their final single ‘Cro-Magnon Man’ ahead of their third album ‘Cowards’, which arrives via Warp Records this coming Friday (7th February).
The new track features vocals from guitarist Louis Borlase alongside contributions from Clarissa Connelly, Tony Njoku and Rosa Brook, set against a backdrop of glitching synth stabs and guitars within a bass-heavy arrangement.
The single follows previous releases ‘Crispy Skin’ and ‘Building 650’. The new album, recorded at Church Studios in Crouch End, was produced by Marta Salogni and Grace Banks, with additional production from Dan Carey. John McEntire handled mixing duties in Seattle, with mastering completed by Heba Kadry in Brooklyn.
‘Cowards’ features nine tracks exploring themes of evil through various narratives. “It’s fucking difficult, it takes many years to figure out a collective language you can share with five of us, and we have managed that musically, to feed off each other,” explains bassist and cornetist Laurie Nankivell.
