Martin Luke Brown has shared new single ‘to be a man’, taken from his upcoming album ‘man oh man !’, due 21st February.
The track explores modern masculinity through lo-fi production, following Brown’s recent US tour supporting Emily King and UK and European dates with Sam Tompkins.
“I wanted to write something centred around being a man,” Brown explains. “Given the context of me being the only guy in FIZZ, which aside from being 3 quarters female, is extremely flamboyant and high camp – it made sense to come back to the parts of myself I’d subconsciously pushed to the background. There’s a lot of things the modern man is wrestling with and we don’t often talk about men’s mental health. I think it is so important to show male vulnerability and compassion.”
‘to be a man’ follows previous singles ‘animal’, ‘this is me now’ and ‘hello !’, all of which feature on ‘man oh man !’. The album was recorded with producer Matt Zara using analog technology, with each track written and recorded in a single day.
Brown has announced a series of in-store performances to mark the album’s release.
