Beyoncé has postponed her planned announcement due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
The singer, who had teased news via a cryptic video clip following her NFL Christmas Day Halftime Show appearance, confirmed the delay in a statement addressing the situation in California.
“The January 14th announcement will be postponed to a later date due to the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires around areas of Los Angeles,” Beyoncé wrote. “I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss. We are so blessed to have brave first responders who continue to work tirelessly to protect the Los Angeles community.”
Through her non-profit organisation BeyGOOD, Beyoncé has donated $2.5million to the wildfire relief fund in LA. “Los Angeles we stand with you,” BeyGOOD stated. “BeyGOOD is taking action by announcing the LA Fire Relief Fund with a donation of 2.5million dollars. The fund is earmarked to aid families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes, and to churches and community centers to address the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.”
The wildfires have prompted several other artists to adjust their plans; The Weeknd has also delayed the release of his album ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’.
