Pavement to release first new song in 25 years on documentary soundtrack

Pavement have revealed their first new song in 25 years will feature on the soundtrack of upcoming documentary film PAVEMENTS.

The track, recorded during rehearsals for their recent reunion shows, will accompany Alex Ross Perry’s new documentary which is currently making its way around the festival circuit ahead of a MUBI release.

Speaking on Vish Khanna’s Kreative Kontrol podcast, Spiral Stairs (Scott Kanneberg) shared news of the track, saying: “There will be a new Pavement song on the soundtrack, that’s all I’m gonna give you.” He added: “I just heard a mix of it today, and it’s pretty good.”

Kanneberg explained the track was captured during rehearsal sessions rather than being a formal studio recording. “It’s not a big deal. It’s just cool because it’s something different and is a song we all really loved playing,” he noted.

The band’s last release was their ‘Major Leagues’ EP in 1999. The group recently performed at the New York Film Festival for what member Bob Nastanovich described as their last show “for a very long time.”
