Nonô’s ‘+55’ EP lands with the grace of someone who’s mastered the art of cultural collision. Named for Brazil’s international dialling code, these four tracks chart a course between Rio’s rhythms and London’s electronic pulse, creating something thrillingly distinct in the process.
‘ALÔ’ sets the coordinates with crystalline intent – baile funk foundations support Nonô’s commanding vocals as they weave between Portuguese and English with natural fluency. The production sparkles with careful detail, each element precisely placed yet flowing with carnival energy.
On ‘Vem’, UK garage meets Brazilian swagger in a combination that feels both fresh and inevitable. It’s the sound of cross-cultural exploration done right, where neither influence diminishes the other. ‘Fenomenal’ takes this fusion further still, its electronic flourishes distinctly British while its rhythmic heart beats pure Brazilian funk.
The closing ‘Desaparecida’ pushes at the boundaries of pop structure while maintaining an irresistible groove. It’s experimental without pretension, complex without losing its joy. There’s not a moment wasted. ‘+55’ refuses to compromise, and it’s all the better for it.
