Anthony Lexa has shared her first new music of 2024.
‘Terrified’ is taken from her upcoming EP ‘A Guide To Healing’, due next year, and was written during her recovery from Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW). It’s “chance to empower those who feel alienated by illness”, she explains.
“It can be scary and isolating but healing can be beautiful. It encourages you to focus on self-care, loving yourself more deeply and letting go of what no longer serves you. That is what the new track ‘Terrified’ celebrates.”
The track features a sample of Miranda Hart discussing chronic illness, whom Lexa cites as a significant inspiration. “Seeing someone I look up to, who’s also known for being positive and providing light relief for people, be so open about a complex and ongoing journey with a chronic health condition made me feel so seen. Not just that, it proved to me that I can still do what I love, I can still channel my pain into art, hopefully uplifting others in the process,” she shares.
Reflecting on the writing process, Lexa adds: “I am finally proud of myself. The writing process of this EP, ‘A Guide to Healing’, has been like therapy. It is rare in life that we get to the end of the day and think… I’m proud of myself. However, when battling not only chronic illness but gender dysphoria, a breakup, sobriety, I just started to feel like a superhero.”
The Sex Education star has also launched a non-profit campaign called “Beauty isn’t skin deep” to raise money for Changing Faces, an organisation supporting those with visible differences in the UK.
