Sometimes, we need to state the obvious, so here we go. Amyl & The Sniffers’ ‘Cartoon Darkness’ is a riotous punk manifesto that cements their status as one of the most raw, exciting bands on the planet. So much, so same as it’s always been.
Recorded at Foo Fighters’ 606 Studios, it’s a full-length that crackles with raw energy and unbridled chaos, Amy Taylor’s feral vocals and the band’s blistering instrumentation making it clear they’re not tempering their fiery approach any time soon. Yes, the album tackles weighty topics like climate change and AI, but always with the quartet’s trademark fury and humour, in a way that feels both polished and gloriously unhinged.
At its core, ‘Cartoon Darkness’ is a call to arms. Have fun, but fucking pay attention with it. It’s a timely reminder of the importance of shouting loud, delivered by a band unafraid to scream bloody murder.
