Good Neighbours’ self-titled debut EP arrives as a burst of much-needed post-summer sunshine, firmly setting the East London duo up as potential standard-bearers for a new wave of feel-good anthems.
Scott Verrill and Oli Fox have crafted a collection of five tracks that showcase their knack for creating euphoric, nostalgia-tinged bangers. From the rousing ‘Keep It Up’ – born out of a moment of personal setback – to breakout hit ‘Home’, it’s a collection that sets out exactly why the band have already clocked up hundreds of millions of precious streams.
‘Daisies’, described by the band as a “low self-esteem anthem”, manages to tackle personal insecurities with an upbeat, catchy melody’, while ‘Bloom’ continues the theme of personal growth and optimism. Its sunny disposition perfectly capturing the youthful energy that permeates Good Neighbours’ sound. Part Passion Pit, part MGMT, but not so 2000-and-late with it, the duo manage to update an aesthetic for a new generation, infusing their music with an edge more than sharp enough to cut through.
Good Neighbours have laid a solid foundation for future success as one of the most exciting new acts of 2024. As they continue to build on that early momentum, you’d be mad to bet against them becoming one of the defining sounds of 2025 too.
