Hak Baker has released ‘Nostalgia Death Act II’, featuring collaborations with Peter Doherty, Baxter Dury and Joe James.
The 10-track EP, produced by Craigie Dodds, includes the lead single ‘No Control’. It coincides with a documentary about Baker’s journey, titled ‘Hakeem‘, which explores themes of class and masculinity.
Baker describes the release as being for “The broken lads, the girls and the boys chasing the night, the people who feel like fire, the ones who look back, and struggle moving forward.”
Reflecting on ‘No Control’, he says, “Time Machine back to the lad sitting on the stairs and waiting for his mum to come home from work. It’s the transition from being scared at those times to losing my young self to the curiosity of the forbidden unknowns. I pulled me trousers on one day a little different and said fuck this I’m gonna live. Didn’t always go right but I’m just exorcising. Gotta fall to fly, literally no control baby. Go wild.”
The dates for the ‘Hakeem’ documentary screenings are as follows:
OCTOBER
26 Dukes Komedia, Brighton
27 Fact, Liverpool
NOVEMBER
4 BFI IMAX, London
9 Ritzy, London
10 Mockingbird, Birmingham
